Senior Mechanical Engineer

The position

We're looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the Speck Design team in San Jose. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will:

  • Design mechanisms, enclosures, and highly-cosmetic parts using 3D CAD software
  • Work closely with our team of industrial designers, electrical engineers, and others to develop world-class products and user experiences
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects, and meet with clients as a technical expert
  • Use shop tools to create rapid prototypes and debug systems
  • Perform engineering analyses on parts and systems, including DFM, FEA, fatigue, FMEA, root cause analysis, DOE creation
  • Create and maintain engineering documentation (2D drawings, design notes, assembly methods, test specifications, regulatory documentation)

Background
  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent practical experience
  • 7+ years’ experience designing and launching successful hardware products
  • Experience with a wide variety of materials and manufacturing processes, from the commonplace to the extremely niche
  • Expert in 3D modeling tools, including simulation and surface modeling (we use Solidworks)
  • Proven ability to integrate electronic sensors, actuators, and motion control components to perform mechatronic tasks
  • Experience with GD&T
  • You feel right at home in a machine/wood/model shop
  • Strong analytical skills and engineering fundamentals
  • Collaboration skills, including experience working with UX and ID teams
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, and work effectively towards fixed deadlines

What We Are Looking For
